MC&Associates’ client, First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union (FHC) forged a partnership with the Jamaica Reading Association (JRA) for the fourth year to commemorate National Reading Week, April 26-May 1, 2015 to highlight the importance of literacy. FHC, however, has taken the concept further by using the week as an opportunity to not only improve literacy, and the love of reading, but also influence the development of positive morals, values and attitudes in our nation’s children.
This year's theme was “THE LEGACY OF LITERACY...PASSPORT TO THE WORLD”. Reading Week 2015 involved a church service at the Portmore Holiness Christian Church plus visits to 25 primary and preparatory schools by both JRA and FHC staff members with animated read aloud sessions followed by questions and answers. The official book selected was ‘Magnus the Mongoose Meets New Friends’ by Jamaican author and animator Alison Latchman. The JRA’s annual Tea Party culminating Reading week is postponed to May 23. Proceeds will go towards literacy programmes island-wide.
